Welcome to the world Baby H | New Hampshire Birth Photographer

Tuesday, August 21st, 2012

Mom, Dad and little boy #1 and I had met back in February or March to discuss birth photography and all that it entails.  When they booked me I was super excited because I just loved the experience I had last summer with my first birth photography session and I couldn’t wait to do it again!

Mom was due July 27 with baby boy #2.  I checked in with mom as time got closer just to see how she was doing.  She ended up going 4 days past her due date but it was the third night that I think prompted things to progress.  Mom had sent me an email to let me know what was going on and to tell me that she didn’t feel confident this baby was coming any time soon… Well, 1:30 am the next day things started going.

Mom is a LD nurse and has all kinds of knowledge about this labor stuff and what she was feeling wasn’t consistent enough to head to The Birth Cottage in Milford just yet. I received a phone call from Dad round 7:50 am Tuesday morning letting me know they were on their way.  I had some things to wrap up before I could head over. When I got to the cottage around 8:28 I decided to take a picture of the outside of the building because the lighting at the time was gorgeous.  Had I known how close she was to having the baby I would have ran inside because at 8:30 Baby H was born!

When I walked into their room I couldn’t believe my eyes.  Mom was holding baby in her hands and just laughed.  I guess they were there for only 5-8 minutes before she had him.  If they waited any longer she could have had him in their bright orange van on the side of highway!

Regardless of the fact that I missed the actual birth I was able to capture the other details of their morning.

The morning when they went from a family of 3 to a family of 4.

It’s a tradition to put the feet of any baby born in the room on the wall. Baby H got his foot prints right next to Big Brother G. :)

When I left the plan was that Big Brother was going home with Grandma and Mom and Dad were going to nap with Baby H.

I was later told that Mom didn’t get much of a nap because she was too excited!

I certainly can’t argue with that!

The birth of Maxwell B. | New Hampshire Birth Photographer

Tuesday, August 9th, 2011

When Gabrielle contacted me and asked if I would be interested in photographing her labor and delivery I was beyond thrilled.  I have seen many blog posts from some wonderful birth photographers out there and have always thought about what an amazing experience it must be.  I was honored that Gabrielle and Eugene were open and comfortable enough for me to be a “fly on the wall” during some private and intimate moments.  It was an experience I’ll never forget and one I hope I get to have again.

How do you show the amazing birth story of a handsome little boy in just a few pictures? You can’t. It doesn’t do the beautiful journey any justice.  So, my friends, you will be viewing a series of photos that I hope can express the true miracle of birth.

When I first arrived entered the birthing room around 6:15 it was so quiet and peaceful feeling that you would have never guessed that mom-to-be had been in labor since about 6am.  Gabrielle appeared calm and relaxed and she remained that way for the entire evening.  Eugene was a constant support for his wife offering his hand or gentle kiss to her forehead.  Their relationship felt easy, their love overflowing.  Just the way they looked at each other brought that feeling in my throat right before tears spring in the corner of your eye.  They were ready for this new little guy to rock their world.

A little before I left I asked Gabrielle if she was already in love.

Her response?

“Truly. Madly. Deeply.”
